View the complete Memorial Day Program
Cost: $8 for adults, $7 for seniors (over 62) and $6 for children 5-17(children 4 and under free). Veterans are FREE. Visitors who donate their old cell phone(s), or bring a care package item for our troops will receive 50% off admission.
On Memorial Day May 31, 2010 Heritage Hill State Historical Park will honor the men and women of the armed forces, both past and present. One of the ways that Heritage Hill will do this is by coordinating a care package and cell phone drive for the “Detached Bulk Fuel Company Bravo, 6 Engineer Support Battalion in Afghanistan.”
The day will begin at 10am as local veterans and our historic Fort Howard Soldiers conduct a memorial service at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier of Camp Smith.
Other activities will honor our armed forces from the early years of the United States to present day. Our Fort Howard soldiers will explain and demonstrate the loading and firing of the different types of firearms used in the early to mid 1800s. A Fort Howard soldier will muster and drill visitors on how to march as a member of the U.S. Army during the 1830s.
Listen to local veterans tell their stories about their years of service and view for the last day the “War, Art and Vietnam Veteran” exhibit.
Finally hear famous speeches from Douglas MacArthur, Dwight Eisenhower and Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
