For Laura Ingalls Wilder, the tall trees of Pepin, Wisconsin were her first memories and were recorded within the pages of the Little House series of books. The popularity of the books also prompted a television series, “Little House on the Prairie”.
From July 22-24, 2010 Heritage Hill State Historical Park Laura Ingalls Wilder’s classic Little House books will come to life. Activities include making bullets, historic dancing, baking Jonny-cakes, rug braiding, historic games, log cabin building, grinding coffee, doing laundry, making Braille name cards, sack races and stove blackening.
Special appearances will be made this year by Melissa Anderson(on July 23 and 24 only), the actress who portrayed Mary Ingalls and Dean Butler, the actor who portrayed Almanzo Wilder (Laura’s husband) on the “Little House on the Prairie” television series.
Returning this year is special guest, William Anderson, Laura Ingalls Wilder biographer, author and historian.
We will also be having our annual Laura and Almanzo Look-A-Like contest several times throughout each day. Visitors who wish may come in costume to participate in a Laura and Almanzo look-a-like contest.
