Join Company E of the 2nd Regiment of Wisconsin National Guard as they prepare for World War I. It is late August of 1917 and Wisconsin Guardsmen are training for war at Camp Douglas. Wisconsin troops are rated in the top three in the nation because of their excellent training and discipline. See and be a part of Wisconsin’s contribution to the war effort during Heritage Hill’s World War I Encampment –Wisconsin 1917.
Special Activities
12:30 pm Draft Registration & Tent Inspection
We invite all visitors to come to the Camp Canteen and experience registering for the draft in 1917 and joining in the inspection of the soldier’s tents.
12:30pm-2:30pm Doughnut Girls
The Doughnut Girls were volunteers from the Salvation Army. They went to the front lines to boost the morale of the soldiers by giving them coffee and doughnuts.
1:00 pm Marching Demonstration
March and drill with the men of Company E
1:30 pm Grenade Training
Test your aiming skills as the men of Company E train you to throw grenades. Don’t worry, they are not live.
2:30pm Skirmish Drill
Practice makes perfect. Soldiers will demonstrate how they moved on the battlefield. They will also show how their weapons works.
3:00pm P.T. (Physical Training) & Baseball
The men of Company E will perform calisthenics. Besides increasing strength and endurance, it provided a boost to unit cohesion and discipline. Be sure to join the men of Company E as they get up a good old fashion game of baseball.
